There are hundreds of species of ticks and at least 90 of them can be found in the United States.  Luckily, not all of types of ticks transmit Lyme disease. 

I recently got Lyme disease for the first time.  Luckily, I was able to catch it early and, other than a few days of extreme fatigue, I am doing fine.
